Quest Quips

blog devoted to CNN International Business anchor, Richard Quest, who looks like a cross between Roger Daltry and a Muppet. You have to see him to believe him...

I'm Going Through Some Serious RQ Withdrawal

Help. The Lexis Nexis account at work has been terminated! And Richard hasn't been on CNN's American Morning with Paula Zahn for ages, at least no one is transcribing and posting his dispatches on CNN's website. So I must resort to an oldie but goodie this week....

this ABC.net Foreign Correspondent interview from 18/4/2000: with Richard Quest - AKA Tech-Wreck

Byrne: Hi Richard Quest, welcome back to Foreign Correspondent. Now....

Quest: I have been proved right!

Byrne: Well... right? I mean, clearly you are no lunatic, clearly this isn't the one-off crash that you said wouldn't happen... what on earth is it?

Quest: It's what I said back then, Jen. This is a serious and nasty correction. This is a little more than the froth being blown off the pint - perhaps some of the pint's being thrown away - but the fact is, the Nasdaq has risen 85% last year, and 20% so far this year... What we've only seen is 35% of that going off. Forget the numbers for a minute, let's go for the gut feeling, let's go for what it tells you in the pit of your stomach. And what it tells you is that the Nasdaq had risen very fast indeed - the balloon had been blown up far too fast, and now some air's been let out.

Isn't it great to see Richard in old form-full of steam and vinegar...

What's he up to now? How do you like the new newsroom set over at CNN International? How is the new show "Your World Today?"

Write and tell! Oh how I wish my local cable operator gave us CNN International! I heard that CNN US aired some chunks of CNN International during last week's Russian hostage crisis but I missed it...
